Home Recording Software-Building A Home Studio

I'm going to talk about home recording software and home studio construction. I basically grew up in recording studios thanks to my Dad being a successful music producer.

When I was a kid I saw music recording studios as big, complicated rooms full of wires and huge moving tape reels. Sound engineers seemed to me to be these geniuses almost like a pilot flying a Boeing from his cockpit. The Engineer was the pilot , the studio was the cockpit and the song was the journey. I still see producing music the same way but these days things have changed alot since the arrival of home recording software systems.

20 years ago recording studios were all full of electronic gear and analogue multitracks. There were no home recording systems like we have today. The centre piece of any studio was the console which was the size of a small car. The cost of building a studio was also prohibitively expensive. I would hear figures of millions to build this or that facility and that wasn't even counting the mammoth gear. To buy all the electronic gear a top notch studio needed back then was also an astronomic figure. This definitely created a barrier to entry into music production and music business in general.

Slowly but surely computers entered into the studio. At First you would see a dusty computer in the corner of the studio only used for invoicing or at the most for editing . only 2 channels at a time mind you. slowly but surely the computer took over mastering and then sequencing. 2 channels became 4 channels and then 8 channels and 12bit became 16 bit and then 24 bit until eventually the computer had replaced almost every piece of gear in the studio including the dinosaur console .

Initially the cost of these computer recording software systems was high but with time the cost dropped dramatically. When I was about 12 I started playing around with my Dads home recording software. It could only do MIDI but that was the beginning of my love for music technology and home recording software in general. I loved computers and music and this was the best of both worlds in one. I could see the future and I believed then already that it would eventually be possible to work at home with a home recording software package.

As computer recording software became cheaper we started to realize that we could setup a home recording software system without spending "millions". We went about building the studio ourselves in the old garage. It was a huge success ,we managed to build and setup a home recording software sytem for a fraction of the cost.

that was 20 years ago and I have built 6 studios since then. Each time I built a new studio I found a better , cheaper and faster way to do it without all the hassle but with all the benefits. I am planning to build a new studio at my beach house with my latest techniques.

The picture you can see on this hub was a recording studio I built but my new home recording software studio will be much easier to build. I have figured out a way to build a home studio by myself with no nails with 1 weeks labor that will rival the sound and power of top recording studios in the world.
